My darling start speaking in rhyme
whenever they start sipping on t hehobo wine
My darling I'm a simple man -
just need me a bona fide one who gonna understand -
My darling is kind and sweet-
when they tasting like shaking shugaree -
My darling is sure sweet and kind -
ain't no Bonnie & I sure ain't no Clyde -
My darling - who your rocking chair?
when your straight leg come back, gonna rock away from here -
My darling sipping nitroglycerin -
asking for water gonna em gasoline -
My darling, let's go to the riverside -
throw my gun in just in case the catfish wanna fuss and fight -
My darling got two men downtown -
take a goodlookin gal to run them men around -
My darling don't want no diamond ring -
they just want a man who learning how to shake that thing -
My darling show something ya never seen before -
daddy gonna crawl in the room like dog on all fours -
(one more time, darlin, I do declare)
My darling start tell me your history -
darling wanna get drunk sipping on your poetry -
My darling start speaking in rhyme -
whenever they astart sipping on that hobo wine
Remedy Blues
(at a Sonny Boy Nelson strut)
Tell me baby, who your remedy?
Tell me baby, who your remedy?
You ain't got no remedy, come and take ahold of me -
Tell me babe, who get your mask and gloves?
Tell me, sweet honey, who get your mask and gloves?
Six feet too far - quarantined from the one I love -
Tell me baby, who you hunkerin down?
Tell me, baby, who you hunkerin down?
When that thing is goin around town -
Tell me darling, ain't it getting low?
Tell me darl, when I'm getting low -
Just my first day, thirteen more to go -
Tell me, baby, who your remedy?
Tell me, baby, who your remedy?
Got no remedy, darling take ahold of me -
Got up this morning, I read the morning news -
Got up this morning, read the morning news -
It said, "The Whole Round World Got Them Isolation Blues -"
Kennelman Blues
(Written for the genuine tall tail owner/operator of The Kennelman, Bobby Skatchke)
Got two dogs behind him, he's the Kennelman -
knowing them puppies just like the back of his hand -
Those puppies waiting to him for their cue -
saying, "Now Big Dog, what do you want us to do?"
Now them puppies of his don't need no leash -
saying, "there ain't nothing that Old Dog he can't teach me" -
I hear that the Kennelman got third eye -
have them doggos saying, "Gimme Kennelman til I die" -
When all the other doggos prove their owners' a fool -
got all the humans wishing they had a Kennelman too -
Teaching em more than just tricks -
teaching them more than just how to shake and sit -
Well, I know what to do -
These seven songs was written through the winter and summer of 2021, off lone takes. I's hunkered down, and still am in a lot of ways, too. I can't make out what I sung in some of the songs, such as "my dog" or "my darling" cuz of patois, but most of the lyrics is below. Hope you dig.

POOR BOY HEADED HOME
Poor boy I hear you headed home ~
(Well man, you heard right)
Well where the hell you been, man?
(Anywhere and nowhere)
I've been there too
I put on my traveling shoes ~
Well now, is that you coming down the road?
(Aw man, I don't walk that slow)
Well, tell me something, where you headed?
(None of your business, man)
Poor boy, tell your folks ~
(Tell em what?)
That you headed home ~
So they got no (?)
(Aw, yeah man)
Yeah, you looking like Tom Joad ~
(One more time around man~)
Give me one more, how long you been gone, man?
(Sixteen years, man)
You ain't seen your family at all?
(Not a lick, man)
Now get on back
IT IS WHAT IT IS
Born in a drive thru town
Get my cigarettes off the ground
Know me, is what it is
Something bout the way you done
Shining like the morning sun
Bring the showers, showers of rain
You is lonesome I's lonesome too
I'm getting your name tattooed
You know me, is what it is
(Is what it is)
Darling I do declare
Gonna find me a better care
You know me, it is what it is
Gonna take me a greyhound
Darling where you ain't been found
Know me, is what it is
I finally pawned the shoes
I used to walk away from you
Know me, is what it is
(Oh is what it is)
Darling I's in a centaur sign,
In black holes I've been crying
Know me, is what it is
You's the page and I's the ink,
what did the writer think?
Know me, is what it is
If you don't want me no more
Come and take my right hand
My weeping willow woman
Darling I's in a centaur sign
In black holes I've been crying
Know me, is what it is
If you don't want me no more,
Come and taken my right hand
My weeping willow woman

So heed my collie neighbor cry
I hear my collie neighbor cry
Well my darling come tell me she done trying
(?) with a point like mine

Take my pistol and throw it in the riverside
Oh, need no pistol at my side

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser.
Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this.
Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?).
With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP. yellowcakeuf6

I'm always reluctant to buy a blues record on vinyl. not this time. I Needed it the moment I heard what was going on. everything about it is amazing and you should trust fat possum(they're doing their best) it's not gimmicky at all. Lagoram
